No Advanced Copies of Tom Clancy’s
The Division
Good or bad? It’s hard to tell at
this point. As of yesterday, Ubisoft has announced that there will be no early
access copies to major gaming outlets, due to it being an ‘always online’
experience. Ubisoft feels that, reviewers and players will not get the full
TPS/RPG experience until the official game servers go live on March 8th
2016.
Let’s discuss what this could
possibly mean…
There is a possibility that the game
could be, in fact, light on content. From what little I’ve played of the Open
Beta, the gameplay is solid. Pretty standard Shooter RPG with talent trees,
cover systems, and decent graphics. However, there was a lot that I was unable
to test/experience while most of the content was locked. I’m hoping that, aside
from the Dark Zone PVP experience, the game will allow a structured PVP
environment, and plenty of open world/side quests and content to complete to
allow the developers time to add and develop free/paid content updates.
Still, I am skeptical. Why?
I am skeptical solely because games,
like Assassin’s Creed Unity, released in a buggy and glitched mess of a game,
to the point that Ubisoft publicly apologized for the lack of polish. However!
I also think that this is the company keeping word-of-mouth and social media
thoughts and opinions down to a minimum to maximize profits. As you are well
aware, gaming media outlets have a HUGE influence on consumers. IF in fact this
game turns out to be a flop, the servers crash (which I’m honestly expecting),
etc, a lot of consumers that are on the fence (and, mind you, these are Destiny
players, a target demographic that Ubisoft is targeting) will shy away from
purchasing what could be a fantastic game skewered by the gaming media.
What do you guys think? Let me know!
As always,
Game on, guys!
