Xbox One Patch Introduces a New
Bug
With the most recent patch, Xbox One received a few, much
needed, quality-of-life patch. This update introduced battery-life of the
controller, which is displayed on the home screen, the % amount of storage
taken up as well as the exact number of GB remaining within the hard drive, and
several others that only improve the Xbox One experience even further. However,
this patch not only improved upon the Xbox One features, but also introduced a
rather annoying bug alongside it.
Black screen. Oh, Sh#@! F#$%! F#$%!
F#$% you, Microsoft. This is probably what you’re thinking, right about now, if
this happened to you. There’s absolutely no need to over-react. These kinds of
things happen.
Let’s go into the details.
This issue can happen at any given
moment during gameplay, or, in my experience, when I minimize during active
gameplay to the home screen to check a message, or send a friend an invite to
Xbox party chat. The uncertainty of it can really make a gamer (like myself)
fearful of playing any competitive multiplayer. This is due to the fact that,
when the opacity blackens, you cannot see nor do anything. However, the game,
as well as your applications, is still active in the background. You can still
hear and issue commands via your controller and connect, but it will make no
difference.
My first instinct was to unplug the
power supply, wait 30 seconds, plug the power supply back in, and turn on my
Xbox One. This method indeed works, and saved me an unwanted trip to GameStop.
Microsoft has reported that this bug has only affected a small group of Xbox
One users; therefore, it’s not widespread, nor a major issue. It’s just unfortunate
that users, including myself, have to deal with this kind of software issue,
however, there is a fair bit of good news. Microsoft is well aware of the
current issue due to the dedicated Xbox forum posters, and there is a hotfix in
the works.
Yay! No more black screen! I just
hope it’s fixed before TitanFall’s release on March 11th… if not, I’ll
be a very unhappy gamer indeed.
More info will be released as the issues are further
addressed.
