MINECRAFT on PC… What Have I
Been Missing Out On?!
Hello ALL! Bchace here!
It is currently 10 AM EST all the way over here in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
New intro I’m trying… like it? (I found it to be a little much. Anyway, let’s
try this again!)
...
Hello, fellow gamer. My name here on
the internet is Bchace, and I’m a blogger! (Better? Short, sweet, and to the
point.) Well, let’s get to it then!
The title of the post says it all… MINECRAFT on the PC. I had no idea what
I was missing out on until I played the PC version of MINECRAFT. Originally, I
never wanted to play the new and increasingly popular game (being the stubborn,
closed-minded gamer that I once was) and I tended to shy away from most PC
games because I couldn’t stand using mouse and keyboard. Once I heard that Mojang
and Microsoft released MINECRAFT: Xbox 360 Edition, I thought to myself, “Hmmm…
this game MUST be good if the developers are porting it to consoles. I must
investigate.”
It was one of the best investments
that I’ve ever made.
As simplistic as the gameplay was (The 360 version was WAY behind in
content), the demo blew me away. I had never played a game like it. When I
entered the game world for the first time, I had such an urge to explore,
adventure, and delve deep into the many generated cavern systems. “Look at that
mountain,” I thought, “Oh! A cave. There must be diamonds down there!” Each and
every turn I took, there was always something new to see. So few restrictions
lead to so many possibilities. Once I sold my Xbox 360 to upgrade to the Xbox
One, I lost the ability to play one of my favorite games.
As you can imagine, this upset me greatly.
Going from Killer Instinct, to Dead Rising 3, to the most recent release of
Titanfall (Haven’t touched it in months) I found myself wanting something with
more value. Don’t get me wrong, all the games I have mentioned are stellar,
however, severely lacked replay value. I took it upon myself, after weeks of
boredom, to give MINECRAFT another try on the PC. I talked some friends into
playing with me this time (Kyle, Ryan, James, Bchace says, “Hello!”) and we
started our own server , thanks to Kyle’s knowledge of port-forwarding. It’s
been a great experience thus far, filled with trolling (I spawned into a
pitfall and lost all my stuff. Thanks, Kyle! Oh! And you RUINED MY FOREST! WHY
DID YOU BURN EVERYTHING?!) exploration (Some awesome cavern systems we found),
and building (Kyle and James are working on a really cool project. Can’t wait
to see it once it’s done!)
There are, however, several MAJOR differences between the console and PC
versions of the game. Some are great, others, not so much. Crafting was immensely
easier on the console version, as all the resources needed to create were in a
simple menu. The PC version requires you to research via Google how to place
resources properly into the crafting window to build. It isn’t entirely tedious;
however, it requires that little bit of extra work and time. The miniscule size
of the worlds on the console version of the game is laughable, now that I’ve
played on PC. Within the boundaries of the 360, one map fit the whole world. On
PC, one map fits the smallest portion of a much bigger world. It seems to go on
endlessly, which, for an avid explorer like me, adds hundreds of hours of
gameplay. PC has more monsters, more variety, resource packs, custom skins,
texture packs, and up to 20 or more players can join a server at one time.
There’s just more to do on the PC version. More everything, actually, and I’m
(Word told me to correct ‘I’m’ with ‘I are’. Imagine that?) okay with that.
Mouse and keyboard isn’t a hard transition. Now that I’ve played countless
games on Steam, and I’m re-subscribed to WoW, I’m on my PC every day. I don’t
even feel compelled to play my Xbox One. I even find myself only using it for
Netflix. Who knows? Maybe I’ll buy the Xbox One Edition of MINECRAFT, although,
I doubt it.
Maybe I’ll start saying, “PC Master Race,” now… PC MASTER RACE! Haha
console fanboys! … Nah! I’m not an elitist jerk. That felt weird to type. I’m
going to go wash my fingertips from the PC fanboy filth.
Until next time…
Game on, guys!
