Congrats on your launch, Sony. From #xbox

“Congrats on your launch, Sony. From #xbox.” Much respect to Microsoft for such a kind, sportsman-like gesture towards their hardened competition. However, is Microsoft’s gesture genuine? Or was it squandered with sarcasm as an attempt to lash out at Sony over their early lead?
On Nov 15th, as I’m sure you’re all well aware, was the day that officially marks the start of next-gen, with the release of Sony’s fourth installment of their Play Station gaming console. As I was browsing the inter-webs, logged in to social media, I saw an interesting image that congratulated Sony on their November 15th launch, under Microsoft’s Facebook fan page. This was to my absolute surprise, as I did not expect Microsoft to so readily congratulate a serious competitor. Their motives are indeed questionable; as a statement such as this can be either have a positive or negative intent.
No launch of a game or a console ever goes entirely 100% as anticipated. However, Microsoft’s remark towards Sony could be taken as a direct jab to Sony, as the launch of their console, as well as their low average scores for their exclusives titles (opinions may vary) have impeded the momentum that they attained from E3 and onward. Sony has reported that a fair number of their consoles, approximately .04% of their manufactured PS4s have been considered “defective,” as disk drive issues, and the lack of a signal have been plaguing gamers who have received early copies of Sony’s next-gen platform. The PSN has also reportedly crashed due to an increase in strain, as a high volume of many new and returning subscribers flooded the servers after 12 A.M. this morning. Perhaps these happenings are the result of karma for being unprepared?
Sony isn’t innocent in all of this. They are also guilty of competitive jabs, as their viral video on “How to Share Your Used Games” was a direct insult to Microsoft’s enacted restrictive policies on used games, which were very much short lived and revoked almost immediately after the backlash they received from gamers. The video consisted of Sony representatives passing a copy of a PS4 exclusive title from one hand to the other, and ending with smugness all around, and an awkward, “Thanks.”
What do you think? Do you believe that Microsoft is being sincere, genuine, and honest? Or is the possibility of underlying, snide sarcasm distasteful?  Let me know!
